Finishers - they’re popular in fitness at the moment, especially in personal training, group PT and from the rise of CrossFit etc .

What are they?
A finisher is a block of work at the end of a workout which aims to increase volume/heart rate/get you sweaty and tired 🥵

Should you do them?

It all depends on your goals and the structure of the finisher itself .

It has been proven that if you train different modalities close to one another (i.e. within the same session) then this dilutes the potency of the stimulus - meaning that if you do a session focused on strength training and finish this with a metabolic conditioning block then your body gets confused with the stimulus from the different training styles and the effect of both is less effective

There are two ways in which you can use finishers to compliment your training:

1️⃣ your goals include different training modalities and you don’t have time to split your sessions up - therefore using your gym time efficiently to attain your goals, though the effectiveness of each will be reduced

2️⃣ the format of the finisher compliments the training that preceded it - if you’re aiming to increase muscle mass and you’ve completed a high volume session then a finisher which increases the work volume over a short time period will therefore bump up the overall volume of that session

I personally use finishers with many of my PT clients, particularly those who have weight loss goals as it assists with increasing calorie burn for that session and these clients typically train 1-2 times per week and no more . 🎥 Heavy sled push used as a high volume finisher after a high volume leg session 🦵🏼 💥 ————————————————————————-

I generally like to pair this movement with other bosu ball exercises such as mountain climbers and push ups to really raise my heart rate. If these burpees are too easy, you can always add a push up at the bottom to make it more challenging as well. I also enjoy doing squats on the bosu ball to really target muscles in the legs and improve my balance 🙌🏻
