When you know your 1 rep max, you have a better understanding to measure your progress. This allows you to achieve greater success over time. Once you have found your 1 rep max, you can use this chart to create a program to push yourself and achieve a higher 1 rep max in the future.

Sample program:
Week 1️⃣: 65-67% of 1 rep max for 12-15 reps
Week 2️⃣: 67-75%  of 1 rep max for 10-12 reps
Week 3️⃣: 75-85% of 1 rep max for 6-10 reps
Week 4️⃣: 85-90% of 1 rep max for 4-6 reps
WEEK5️⃣: 90-95% of 1 rep max for 2-4 reps
Week 6️⃣100% retest your 1 rep max

By progressive overload we can accomplish greater strength gains. Once a new 1 rep max is found you can take that number and start the process over again. (This can be used for lifts such as bench press, squat, deadlift, overhead press)

BENEFITS OF PAUSE SNATCHES
The pause snatch is beneficial for lifters as it (1) forces balance in the pull, (2) improves l positioning of the torso over the bar during the pull (3) increases rate of force production in the second pull.

HOW TO DO PAUSE SNATCHES
Perform the pause snatch in similar manner to a standard full snatch, however at a various stage in the pull you should pause, maintaining the angles and positions you are in. The pause can happen at any segment of the pull, and often are based on needs/daily technical areas that a coach/athlete wants to address. Once you have held this pause in the pull for a second or two, pull aggressively through the stopping point and finish the lift.

SETS, REPS, AND INTENSITIES
This movement is often done in warm-ups, technique primer sets, and lighter positional training days. Start with 3-6 sets of 2-3 reps at 60-70% of snatch max. If you are looking to use the pause snatch as a heavier snatch variation, you can do so using 75-90% of snatch max for 1-2 reps.

Taming Intensity 
Depending on what your intent of the day is you can manipulate your environment to fit your needs

If the goal is to set a PR for the day or you having a competition coming up and it’s a high priority workout I think it’s a great idea to make sure the energy in the room is high. I typically reverse taking a little more caffeine on these days.

Training with a group of likeminded people with the music blasting with people cheering you in can be a game changer.

On the flip side is you are trying to deload or taper training alone in a quite environment is a good idea as well since you want to limit how much work or weight you are lifting and don’t want to be overly stimulated. I will limit or have zero stimulants on a day like this. 
Somewhere in the middle maybe you have a lot of volume to do but aren’t maxing out and you may want to environment somewhere in between so maybe you try not to get so hyped up but still got some good tunes playing but volume isn’t cranked to the max and you certainly aren’t sniffing any smelling salts before every working set !

One of the things I will be doing moving forward as my last heavy workouts are behind me is I won’t be training with head phones or music.

It’s a really simple way to allow you to set you up for easy workouts to help stimulate your recovery and reduce fatigue.

Setting up your mindset and environment based on the intent of the day can help drive the adaption you want whether it be inducing more stress or reducing fatigue .
