This week I’m educating y’all on cholesterol! There will three more posts following this one about the breakdown of blood cholesterol, why it’s important, and how to get the best numbers possible!

What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is naturally created by our body (mostly in liver) and is necessary for many functions included organs, digestion, etc. The cholesterol our body makes isn’t bad! It’s normal and needed. However, the rest of the cholesterol that we have comes from the food that we eat.

Why is cholesterol important?
Outside of our bodies regular function, the food we eat can greatly affect our cholesterol levels and determine our risk with heart disease (#1 killer in the U.S.), type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart attack, etc.. what we eat impacts our cholesterol which impacts our health 👩‍⚕️🏥💊.

Cholesterol CAN be affected by our genes (thanks mom and dad) and some other factors as well, but if we are taking advantage of what we can control (food & exercise), we are MUCH better off.

Cholesterol listed on the nutrition fact label is not associated with your blood cholesterol. All that label tells you is that there is animal product used as part of the ingredients!

Total cholesterol is a combination of your HDL, LDL, & Triglycerides and gives a quick insight if your cholesterol is high, low, or just right!

☑️From the starting position, feel the whole left foot and then sit back into the hips. Only go as far as you can while keeping the back flat.

My focus has been to improve core stability throughout the movement and get better at firing my glutes during the concentric (shortening/ upward phase) of the movement

RDL’s are a fantastic exercise for developing your posterior chain (Traps, back, glutes,hamstrings)

Tempo work has proven fantastic for increasing awareness of muscle engagement, improving technique and refining motor learning as well as just switching it up and adding some variability to my training

alternating the stimulus by increasing time under tension can be great if you’ve plateaued at the same load for a while or are struggling to feel the correct muscles engaging, its also a great way to overload the muscles in a different manner than the typical increasing reps, sets or load
