Recently a client asked me to explain why I want her to build muscle to burn fat and focus on shape rather than to try and lose weight by doing cardio and restricting calories.  I explained to her that depending on your body type, if you can build enough muscle you can burn fat by just moving around. On the contrary, if you don’t have a good base of muscle and you only do cardio or restrict calories you will have to work long and hard to burn fat.  Long story short: Muscle movements take energy, more energy output means less stored energy, less stored energy means less fat in the body, less fat means leaner shape.
