I am only posting this because I want to highlight a common struggle that reverts experience all too often. This page reached out and asked to post my conversion story and to send them pictures of myself to go along with the story. I gave them 2 pictures and wrote my intimate story of converting to Islam for the world to see. )
They posted the story but took it down a few hours later. When I asked why, this is what they said. They began with asking for a “higher quality” of image and then finally admitted that they wanted me to provide a picture of me in a hijab or covering my head. To imply that covering my hair or head would make me “higher quality” is beyond insulting and just flat out wrong. )

Their page is solely dedicated to celebrating and sharing the stories of reverts and their behavior is extremely damaging to new reverts especially. There are hundreds of thousands of born Muslims in the world who do not wear hijab as adults, and it is completely unfair to expect anything different out of Muslim converts. We constantly feel like we are left out and different from born Muslims, and it’s things like this that make us feel this way. .

I do not wear hijab full time, and so I am not going to pretend like I do for the internet. I want to share my truth and let people know that Muslim reverts come from all walks of life. It’s completely fine that I don’t wear hijab yet. I will someday inshallah, and when I do- it will be for Allah (SWT) and will NEVER to appease strangers on the internet.
