⬅️April 2019 and Oct 2019➡️ In the first photo, I really struggled to hold the pose and I couldn’t even grab my foot. It was hard for me to sit up straight and I couldn’t even turn my neck. This pose has definitely come easier over the months. I can grab my foot now and I can look up with ease. Be patient. Be kind to yourself and practice knowing that all will come ❤️

This pose is often practiced later in a sequence, when the body is warm. It also helps to prepare the practitioner for even deeper poses, such as One Leg Behind Head Pose (Eka Pada Sirsasana) and Sleeping Yogi Pose (Yoganidrasana).⠀

Though commonly referred to as “Seated Forward Fold” or “Seated Forward Bend,” its Sanskrit name translates to “Intense West Stretch.”⠀

Bring your arms straight out to the sides and up over your head, reaching toward the ceiling.⠀
Inhale and draw your spine up long.⠀
As you exhale, begin to come forward, hinging at your hips. Imagine your pelvis as a bowl of water that is tipping forward.⠀
On each inhale, lengthen your spine. You may come a bit out of your forward bend to do this.⠀
On each exhale, deepen into your forward bend. Imagine your belly coming to rest on your thighs, rather than your nose coming to your knees. This will help you keep your spine long.⠀
Keep the neck as the natural extension of your spine, neither cranking it to look up nor letting it go completely.⠀
When you have come to your full extension with the spine long, decide whether you want to stay here or let your spine round forward.⠀

Como en todas las estructuras, las bases son fundamentales. Entonces para ésta y todas las posturas, la base de sustentación (que en esta son los pies) deben tratar de estar lo más fuertes posibles, ganar superficie de contacto con el piso. 👉🏻Para ello te recomiendo que practiques lo siguiente mientras la armás:
👆🏻Inhalá y levanta los dedos y metatarso del pie izquierdo, como si quisieras avanzar pero sin despegar el talón del piso;
✌🏻separa bien los deditos y exhalando apóyalos uno a uno, tratando de ver entre ellos el mat, vas a notar una gran diferencia con el otro pie.
🤟🏻Repetí hacia el otro lado.

“La gente no presta atención a la manera correcta de estar de pie. Unos cargan exclusivamente el peso del cuerpo encima de una pierna o mantienen una pierna completamente girada hacia un lado. Otros descansan todo el peso sobre los talones o sobre el borde interno o externo del pie. Esto puede ser comprobado observando cómo se produce el desgaste de las suelas y tacones del calzado. Debido a esta errónea posición de pie, por la mala distribución del peso del cuerpo se adquieren deformidades que dificultan la flexibilidad vertebral. Incluso cuando los pies deban estar separados, es mejor colocar talones y dedos en una misma línea paralela al plano medio, y no en ángulo. Por este proceder, las caderas se mantienen contraídas, el vientre es interiorizado y el pecho es proyectado hacia adelante. Con ello se siente la ligereza en el cuerpo y agilidad en la mente. Si nos situamos cargando el peso del cuerpo solamente sobre los talones, sentimos un cambio en el centro de gravedad; las caderas carecen de firmeza, el abdomen se sale hacia afuera, el cuerpo se inclina hacia atrás, obligando a un sobreesfuerzo de la columna vertebral, y en consecuencia pronto sobreviene la fatiga y la mente se embota. Es, por tanto, esencial dominar debidamente el arte de permanecer de pie correctamente.
