Willie Wood Sr. (December 23, 1936- February 3, 2020)
Willie Wood was born and raised in Washington D.C. Wood attended Armstrong High School from 1952- 1956 before heading out west. He played his freshman year at Coalinga Junior College, where he was a Juco All American. The next year he was at USC. At USC Wood became the first black quarterback to ever play in the Pac 10. He was not drafted in the 1960 NFL Draft, which lead him to write a letter to Coach Vince Lombardi requesting a tryout. He was signed as a quarterback later switching his position to safety. He started every game until he retired in 1971. Wood also played in the first Superbowl.
