When it comes to cancer prevention and treatment, all too often we rely on drugs and procedures.

On the prevention side, tools like colonoscopy, mammography and PSA testing are NOT prevention--they are early detection.

Using prevention to stop something from happening in the first place is always better than trying to find something early before it gets more dangerous.

Our lifestyle choices are the only way to truly prevent bad things from happening.  This same attitude comes to improving survival from cancer.

The research on dietary choices, environmental chemical exposure and exercise on helping patients not only survive cancer but also prevent the return of cancer is solid.

Alas, these recommendations are not commonplace in an oncology clinic.  While more clinics have embraced lifestyle counseling to help cancer patients get better outcomes, I still feel that this is more of a side bar than an integral part of any cancer treatment.

This study looked at how much sedentary behavior as well as dietary intake of dietary fiber, carotene, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and vitamin C all played a role in cancer survival.
