LP NAME: The Final Cut (1983)

ARTIST: @pinkfloyd

GENRES: Art Rock

REVIEW: A quick way to describe this record is: Roger Waters whining about his dead father for 40 minutes. Even with that, he doesn’t do it In a compelling way. Lyrically, it’s almost always anti war and whiny but musically it’s even worse. The instrumentals mostly consist of piano driven songs with either mumbling Roger or screams Roger which I fucking hate. The worst track on this is probably the first track, The post war dream, which starts with Roger mumbling about his daddy in a way that makes me uncomfortable to be honest. I never liked his voice a lot but this brought it to another level. We do have some saving cuts like The fletcher memorial home which actually incorporates the piano in an interesting way and the only Gilmore track in here: Not now John, which carries that signature blues feel from David and it also has some catchy vocals. Overall, it’s a bad album but it certainly isn’t fucking despicable as there are some good cuts and some okay cuts. The horrible cuts are there yes but they don’t overwhelm the album. It is uninspired, bland and whiny but if the lyrical themes were tackled in another way and the instrumentals were more varied this could have been a good album. It just goes to show how Pink Floyd is a band and not just Roger.

FAV TRACKS: Your Possible Pasts, The Gunners dream, The fletcher memorial home, Not now John

LEAST FAV TRACKS: The post war dream, One of the few, Paranoid Eyes

FINAL SCORE: 5.75/10
