Eighteen years ago, I held a scrunch-faced newborn baby girl in my tiny arms. Nineteen-month-old me was so fascinated with the tiny human that I nearly poked her eye out. That newborn was my baby sister and turned out to be the closest, best friend I’ve ever had.

Bella means “beautiful,” and that fits. Bella, or Belly as I most often call her, has a beautiful, deep soul. There are so many layers to her that are only unraveled over time as you get to know her. She’s quiet and serious and thoughtful and thinks and feels deeper than anyone I know. But she can also be a party animal when she feels like it, she has the best laugh ever, is free-spirited and adventurous and the most fearless person I know, and has a wicked sense of sarcasm that pops out when you least expect it. She’s also incredibly loyal to those she loves. The two of us are polar opposites, which is probably how we balance each other so well. She keeps my wild side in check, pushes me out of my fears, listens to me ramble, believes in me when I don’t even believe in myself, puts up with my messiness, babys me when I need it, and slaps me upside the back of the head when I need that. From playing dollies, to building forts, to washing dishes together, to sharing bunk beds, to cuddling up to watch Murdoch Mysteries, I think we’ve been inseparable since birth.

And now she’s a flippin’ ADULT and I’m so not okay with that. 😭😭😭
