This occurs when honey bees are about three weeks old. The second video shows what the normal hive traffic looks like for this hive. Orientation flights happen in the afternoon and it allows the new foraging bees to use the sun to determine their location and the location of their hive. It’s fascinating to watch as they make their figure eight flights above their hive as they orient, thus the term “orientation” flights.
