Happy 62nd birthday to one of my favorite directors from my childhood, Tim Burton. While he’s been very hit and miss this past decade, those early ones from the 80s and 90s will always hold a special place for me. Along with the animated series, his Batman films were my introduction to the character before I got into reading comic books. He has a distinctive style that’s all him, aside from Planet of The Apes you see a film of his and you know you’re watching a Tim Burton production. Even The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and The Giant Peach, both which he only produced have his style all over them. A very underrated Burton film that I’ve grown to like more over the years would be Big Fish. As a teen I was very meh on it but as I’ve gotten older I’ve learn to appreciate it. His work in stop motion animation is great, thAts such a hard medium to tackle and he’s definitely mastered it.

Other childhood favorites are Pee Wee’s Big Adventure ( I cant hear Tequilla without doing the dance), Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. All three films that I will never get tired of. This is an unpopular opinion but I feel his best film is Ed Wood, I love that movie so much, so underrated yet so expertly directed and written. To me the last film of his to be really strong was Sweeney Todd, that’s the last time I feel he really tried. I wasn’t a fan of Alice in Wonderland or Dark Shadows. While I enjoyed his Frankenweenie remake, Big Eyes and Home for Peculiar Children, I feel those are simply okay and ppl warm up to them because of how bad his two collaborations with Johnny Depp were.
