Yesterday was George Enescu’s birthday (8/19/1881) - one of the greatest Romanian or otherwise musicians we’ve been blessed with. Besides growing up hearing his music, his name is dear to my heart because I started my artistic exploration at the age of 9 at the George Enescu Lyceum of Arts in #bucharest, the ballet conservatory wing. Under communism at the time, that school may have been one of the few places where Marxist-Leninist dogma was easiest to escape. Perhaps because an ideology that can only survive if it fools us into believing that our existence is only ‘material’ while its leading proponents act as our Gods has, indeed, nothing in common with the arts, those experiences that remind us of the part of ourselves which is definitely not material, of how much we yet do not know, of our humble place in the sphere of the universe, and of our subservient reality to a force immensely greater than ours - a subservience that keeps us grounded and working toward unity, not fracture. Happy birthday Enescu! #georgeenescu #stayhumble #spiritualwarfare ( @daniel.jinga this is amazing! ) #romanianrhapsody
