As a therapist, I often work with people who have accessed therapy before. Sometimes, their experiences with their previous therapist have left them with ideas about themselves and the therapeutic process that are unhelpful, maybe even harmful. Here is a short (non-exhaustive) list of things that may indicate that the therapist you’re working with isn’t the right fit for you. There are many many more indicators of this (I’ll include a few more in the comments) and what is most important that you check in with yourself about how this process is going for you and whether it is feeling helpful, supportive and nourishing or not. If the fit is not one that is working for you, please know that you have the right to change your therapist to someone who resonates more with what you’re looking for.
