Some of the most popular stories we shackle ourselves with are variations of “I’m not good enough”, “I’m not worthy enough”, “ I don’t belong.”⠀
⠀
There are many stories that we continually tell ourselves, but we can change our stories. ⠀
⠀
In my earlier years, some of the stories I believed were:⠀
⠀
- As a woman of colour, I didn’t belong in the corporate space.⠀
- As a black woman I was not beautiful ⠀
- All leaders were white men (except Martin, Nelson and Malcolm, but still men)⠀
- I didn’t understand money.⠀
- I was not a businesswoman.⠀
⠀
Some of these stories I was also told by other people and society at large, but I ultimately had to become responsible for the stories I told myself. ⠀
⠀
Through personal growth (owning my limiting stories) through reading (learning how others changed their stories) and listening (to new ways of being in the world) I began to change.⠀
⠀
I changed my stories and this has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined.⠀
⠀
By committing to growth and taking consistent uncomfortable action you can change your stories too.⠀
⠀
So I ask you, what stories do you want to write?⠀
