Let’s talk COVID boredom for kids. I am a true believer that boredom can breed creativity. I am a true believer that kids need to experience boredom to learn to play independently and build executive functioning skills. I am a true believer that parents should not solve boredom.
So here we are a bazillion days into an unprecedented worldwide pandemic and my kids are BORED! I feel like I have provided them with all the pre-req skills to solve their boredom problems but having such limitations for this long is taking a toll on them. Yesterday I heard “We have done everything there is to do!” It’s true they’ve done everything and they’ve done everything many times over.
The next few months are going to be challenging for everyone. We are hopeful for a return to normal-ish in coming months but that is still a long way away. There is no way to solve all the boredom but yesterday we tried to do the same old things in a tent to mix it up a bit. How did it go? Well not as well as I had hoped for but it did have some positive moments.
