The next few posts are dedicated to help you unpack the link between phonics and reading, the type of programmes schools follow, the importance of phonics, the structure of a lesson and help you understand phonics terminology!
According to @nationalliteracytrust phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language.Phonics involves matching the sounds of spoken English with individual letters or groups of letters. For example, the sound k can be spelled as c, k, ck or ch.
Frequent opportunities for children to apply what they are learning about letters and sounds to the reading of words, sentences, and stories should be offered!
