The first album to punch their ticket into the RAP MADNESS final 4 is none other than Illmatic. At just 19 (17 at the beginning of recording), Illmatic is the very representation of street poetry. Nas paints some vivid imagery providing the listener with a landscape and experience unlike any other at the time. The all star production lineup was something unheard of as well, not to mention the album cover really went away from the classic crew portrait. Illmatic above all else is the “perfect” album that packs so much in such limited time and provides the ideal standard of a rap album. It’s a mark everyone should aim to hit. Madvilliany accomplishes a lot of the same feats, but unfortunately on a smaller scale reaching fewer people. Disagree?
