•Making Mud Pies• . . 👋🏼 I hope everyone is enjoying their morning! We certainly are. The weather has been GORGEOUS here and we have a trail walk planned for this afternoon after the boys wake up. I wanted today’s #dailytoddlertask to last all morning, and it did. . . I set up a dirt & water sensory station. This is Pearsons first mud pie experience so we kept it simple. . . Whether it’s sensory stations or toys for an airplane ride or a restaurant outing, I have one golden rule; “Never bring out the finale/the closer/the guarantee first”. . . What do I mean by this? If you are looking to elongate any activity start with the basics first and then add the bells and whistles as you see your little begin to “move on”. If you start with the guaranteed fan favourites, there is nothing more you can give them after that to keep them engaged. . . Why am I mentioning this? Because this mornings outdoor sensory station only had dirt and water. The next time I set this up I will add other elements, such as: sand, rocks, gravel, hidden toys, grass, leaves etc. (You catch my drift, hopefully 🤣). Scaffolding your activities ensures longevity in your task & each time you set it up, your child will know to expect an element of surprise. . .
