It dates back to the end of the 16th-beginning of the 17th century, during the tenure of the Cardinal of Richelieu. Yes, that mean one in the three musketeers. Did you know there’s a whole town called Richelieu nearby? Designed upon request by him and for the Cardinal as his realm, and the first French town with grid mapping, like U.S. cities.
