The meaning behind this garden is heartbreaking but beautiful how this community came together to make a stand.. It was created in memory of Juan Andrés Benítez who was a gay man beaten to death by police officers in 2013. This garden is not only in remembrance of him but stands for a place to remember police brutality and impunity in the Raval neighborhood.
Also another really strong piece on the back wall is shown here. The art on the back wall is depicting the tourism industry taking over Barcelona. Makes you really think about your impact on communities as you travel and the reason behind why you travel. So important to visit and learn as much as possible from other places and people but so important to do that in a way that doesn’t encourage advertising of a place that eventually ends up taking the culture away from the neighborhood! .
