Growing up id have given you my left arm to be a jedi, i didnt have much time for leia, to a young jemma she didnt do much at all, in comparison to xena and buffy she quite frankly done heehaw other than get in the road and fail to avaid capture on multiple occassions. Fast forward to high school and a perspective shift sees the leia once identified as a pain in the arse become a role model. Not for just the strength of character in the films when you realise she the one dragging han and luke about and apparantly the only one capable of shooting in a straight line successfully but i learned about the woman behind leia. Carrie, queen carrie.

She embodied feminism, something i really struggle with today as i find many people use it as a crutch or to push a personal agenda. Carrie used it because she didnt know how not to, she was outspoken, resilient and forward thinking and for that she was labelled a feminist and a trouble maker. She battled addiction, depression, mental illness and didnt shy away from addressing it. What others often see as their biggest weakness and greatest source of shame, she used as her superpower and strength, writing and talking about it, allowing her to advocate for mental health and remove the stigma that surrounds it.

So many people struggle with addressing their feelings or feeling that their emotions arent justified or necessary. I struggle immensely, wrestling with myself when i feel down or low as i always compare it to someone else out there being in a worse state or predicament than me but its absolutely okay to priorities your feelings, its okay to explore your own mental health and reach out and seek help if need be, especially in the current climate were things such as depression, anxiety, fears, panic attacks and insomnia are likely increased due to the covid pandemic flipping everyones environment on its head. I am glad to have shared my childhood with Leia. Im glad to have immortalised Carrie on my arm and im proud to have shared a planet with someone so sure of herseld and her abilities and power as a woman on this earth that she made sure everyone knew about it till the day she died.#womancrusheveryday RIP CARRIE
