đź‘‹ remember me?

I’ve been educating myself on a lot of things this last week, just like so many of us have. Yesterday was a lesson I won’t forget. After talking to small business people in different industries, some things are very clear and the magnitude is very disturbing.

7,000,000 restaurant workers are already out of a job and that’s going up and a much more rapid pace than the spread of the virus. Not sure on the numbers for hotels, airlines, retail shops, fashion industry, photographers, event companies, musicians, artists, fitness instructors, and so many more. But it’s all climbing at numbers we can’t calculate in our heads.

We are all doing our part to stay home, but there is another part we have to do right now. Please think about how you are spending money right now. Amazon is adding 100k jobs, Walmart 150k. They don’t need your money. That still leaves 6,500,000 restaurant workers alone out of a job. Millions more I. Other industries.
We all want convenience, that’s the beauty of living in the year 2020. Right now, it’s ok to inconvenience ourselves a little by picking up the phone and calling the local business that doesn’t have an e-commerce platform. Or think about the fitness class you use to spend $20 on and learned so much from that instructor that now you can do the program on your own. Maybe order your kids birthday cake from the local bakery that is sitting at home with a lot of unused ingredients.

Even if you can pay if forward and not get anything in return immediately, let’s all find a way to help lighten the load of the millions suffering from the collateral damage of covid-19.

Don’t wait for a government bailout, that will take too long for most of these people.
This is by no means a plea to ignore or contradict the intensity of the health scare our world is working through. Quite the opposite. Take care of yourselves by any means possible. But in doing so, take care of others in the way we all know how to do, but might not be thinking about.
This is not a call out, this is an opportunity to open your virtual arms and help people that are going through incredible pain. It’s no one else’s job. It’s your job. And my job.
