The Big Bang is a cosmological model used by scientists to describe the origin and evolution of the Universe.
In general, the term "Big Bang" is associated with all the theories that describe our Universe as coming from rapid expansion. By extension, it is also associated with this dense and warm era that the Universe experienced 13.8 billion years ago, without this prejudging the existence of an "initial instant" or a beginning of its history. The comparison with an explosion, often used, is also unreasonable.
The term was initially proposed in 1927 by the Belgian astrophysicist and canon canon Georges Lemaître [4], which described in broad outlines the expansion of the Universe, before this is highlighted by the American astronomer Edwin Hubble in 1929. This model was designated for the first time under the ironic term of "Big Bang" during a BBC broadcast, The Nature of Things on March 28, 1949 (the text of which was published in 1950), by the British physicist Fred Hoyle, who himself preferred steady state models.
The general concept of the Big Bang, namely that the Universe is expanding and has been denser and warmer in the past, must no doubt be attributed to the Russian Alexandre Friedmann, who proposed it in 1922, five years before Lemaître . However, its foundation was only established in 1965 with the discovery of the cosmic microwave background, the "disappeared glow of the formation of worlds", in the words of Georges Lemaître, who definitively attested to the reality of the dense era and warmth of the primordial Universe. Albert Einstein, by developing general relativity, could have deduced the expansion of the Universe, but preferred to modify his equations by adding his cosmological constant to it, because he was convinced that the Universe must be static.
