International Women’s Day late night thoughts as I look upon my little women growing up right in front of me.
.
There’s a whole and giant and never ending mountain of expectation looming in front of us as women. A mountain of what we’re “supposed to be”.
.
How we’re supposed to look.
.
How we’re supposed to act.
.
How we’re supposed to feel.
.
How we’re supposed to dress.
.
How we’re supposed to love.
.
How we’re supposed to parent.
.
How we’re supposed to (insert literally anything 🤪).
.
And it’s just this mountain sitting in front of us. And we often choose to climb it. “If I just get to that top of this mountain and be everything I’m supposed to be, then I’ll feel GOOD. I’ll feel HAPPY.”
.
But, the truth is, that as we climb that mountain we pick up all this baggage. All this baggage that isn’t ours but it’s HEAVY. It’s dragging us down. It isn’t us. And the higher we get, the worse it feels, the more exhausted we are, the more our true selves get shrouded in the facade of it all. And then....pretty soon, we realize that there is no top to the mountain. It’s designed to go on, unendingly, mercilessly until we crumble under the weight of the expectation of it all.
.
Y’all let’s UN.PACK.IT. Take it off. Put it down. It’s dulling that beautiful fire inside of you that burns with the light of exactly who you want to be and exactly what you want to do. Let your fire freaking burn. Sprint back down that mountain. And go the f*ck around it. And, when someone or something else throws it back down in front of you. Flip it your favorite finger, and set yourself free..
.
YOU, before you ever touched that “supposed to be” mountain, are exquisite. Full of beautiful flaws. Full of unique gifts to bring to the world. PERFECTLY imperfect. Exactly the way you’re made. Right now. Today. Life is too short to arrive at the end having been what everyone else told you that you should be and never living your truth.
.
Bring it on, ladies. Bring your true.self.on.
