There have been several convos around the clinic lately about food /nutrition / what rules to follow / unfollow... it can be an overwhelming world of changing information and advice.⁣
⁣
One thing many of us can get behind is the idea of eating plenty of fresh, whole foods, that our body intuitively craves and enjoys.⁣
⁣
For me that’s salads, like my lunch pictured here. However, I, and many of my patients, aren’t always totally keen on salads in winter. And there’s good reason for that. Our digestion isn’t really primed for too much in the way of raw/bitter foods at this time of year.⁣
⁣
However, salads can still be enjoyable even in the cooler months, and may even feel like a complement to some of the warmer, denser, heavier winter meals like soups/stews. ⁣
⁣
My tricks include ⁣
letting my salads come up to room temperature (not too difficult considering I’m a busy working parent and can get distracted from my meal pretty easily!). ⁣
Also I’ll sometimes layer in roasted veggies in with raw salad greens, or toss in some cooked grains to warm up the dish. ⁣
Lastly, I might add in a dressing with warming herbs and spices like ginger, mustard, and pepper.⁣
⁣
How do you like your veggies in winter? I’d love to hear. 🍅🥦🥬🥒🌶🥕🧅 ⁣
