• September 1940 •
RAF personnel from a salvage crew dismantle the wreck of a German Dornier Do 17 bomber coded F1+FS of 8./KG76. The aircraft was shot down by Flying Officer John Dundas and Pilot Officer Eugene Tobin of No 609 RAF Squadron on 15 September 1940 over Castle Hill, Shoreham.
The day was a significant victory for the British, with RAF Fighter Command attacking the intruders in massive formations of fighters and continuing to attack even during the bomber´s return flight to french bases. RAF pilots claimed 185 enemy aircraft destroyed during these actions, actually the Germans lost 61 aircraft while another 23 returned damaged. ----------------------------------------------------
