News Reelz: The sudden cancellation of Showtime’s Ray Donovan after seven seasons left many of its fans shocked and befuddled. It wasn’t as if fans didn’t know that the end of the road was near but they did expect a proper conclusion and send off, something Showtime deprived them of despite the series’ success over the years. The fan outrage was very vocal and it appears their battle cry was heard by the powers that be, according to the star of Ray Donovan, Liev Schreiber.

Schreiber has been rallying for fan support long before the cancellation news, perhaps fearing that Showtime wasn’t 100 percent behind a final eighth season as renewal conversations came down to the wire. Acknowledging the power of fan support once again, Schreiber took to his Instagram page to let the fans know that their response to the news may just give Ray Donovan one final shot to properly say goodbye. Here is his quote on Instagram:

"It seems like your voices have been heard. Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more Ray Donovan.”

The fact that Showtime had to take notice to the fan disapproval really isn’t surprising. Even in their statement about the cancellation, Showtime acknowledged that Ray Donovan provided them with seven very successful seasons and there was no real reason given as to why, at the very least, the show wasn’t given one more season to wrap the show up properly. Series showrunner David Hollander likely sparked a fuse within fans even further by saying that he and the show’s creative team had been completely blindsided by the network’s cancellation decision. Usually a network can blame dwindling ratings or a dip in the creative quality of a show for its reason for not moving forward with another season but Showtime lacks any of these excuses and this is why the fans have taken them to task for their decision.
