Women carry more body fat than men (on average) due to hormonal differences, and the female body’s need to be prepared for potential childbearing (breastfeeding, carrying a child inside the uterus, etc.). These reasons are also why the fat distribution among men and women are quite different. Typically*, women store their fat in the areas required for childbearing, like the hips and buttocks and lower abdomen.

While we tend to get overly focused on weight, our weight does not reflect muscle mass, bone mass, or body fat percentage. You can be at a healthy weight or BMI, but NOT a healthy body fat percentage.

Body fat percentage should not be on either extreme - high or low - for long-term health.

Being extremely lean (sub 13% body fat for women) is not sustainable, and can have negative effects on hormones and energy levels, increase irritability, etc.This is why the leanness required for competitors, is not sustainable, and is a short-term look. If you admire a competitor, recognize that they do not maintain that look after their shows, because it would be unhealthy for their long-term health.

-Gallbladder disease or failure
-Diabetes mellitus
-Joint pains/issues/disease
-Respiratory dysfunction
-Hypertension
-Elevated blood lipids
-Cardiovascular disease -
