Not too many people know of the early American practice called ‘Ginger Snatching’. Pirates, brigands and gypsies in the 17th century would kidnap red heads and force them into lives of piracy. Known for our soulless rum drinking and swashbuckling skills we rapidly rose through the ranks. 
The phrase ‘Red at night, sailors delight (referencing how fun we are at evening nautical shindigs) 
And 
Red in the morning, sailors take warning (alluding to how red heads were tied to the fronts of boats and used as axe wielding rams in earlier morning raids) has immortalized this tradition. 
Though it has long gone out of fashion, I still keep a look out while in port cities. #themoreyouknow
