A quick break from toys so I can talk about this book. 26 years ago, when I was a Freshman at SVA in New York City I took a creative writing class. In that class there was this quiet guy who wrote a story (or a poem) about Vietnam Jungle Boots. A subject that - amazingly - I was intimately familiar with. After class, I introduced myself and he and I ended up wandering around Manhattan, bonding over Jungle Boots, female-fronted power pop bands, Goth bands and culture, comics, art and more. That guy was Jeremy Jusay ( @jeremyjusay ) and that day was the beginning of one of my dearest friendships. Over time, Jeremy shared with me with zine, KARASS. In that zine was an AMAZING comic he was working on called THE STRANGE ONES. It was about two kids in New York and it was beautiful and haunting and sad and lovely. I became an INSTANT fan. Over the next two decades The Strange Ones came in and out of my life - Jeremy even asked me to write an introduction for a run of hand-bound volumes he made.... But now. NOW. After years of work, my friend Jeremy has completed his tale and thanks to Simon & Schuster, the entire Strange Ones story is complete and ON SHELVES. People - I can not recommend this book more highly. It’s poignant and lovely. It’s filled with hope and heartbreak. I’ve been in love with this story for nearly 30 years - I can’t wait for you all to fall in love, too. Congrats Jeremy.
