January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. We always check carefully for glaucoma because a person can be loosing significant vision without any symptoms until very late in the disease. This image shows an optic nerve that is suspicious for glaucoma even though the pressure was “normal”. Further testing is indicated to rule out glaucoma and/or obtain a good baseline to compare over time. Interestingly, this patient’s older brother has advanced glaucoma that he was not aware of until he finally had an eye exam.
