So I wasn’t going to write this post, as it’s not really a ‘sleep therapist’ type thing to talk about. And that is about my own child’s struggle with sleep! ⁣
⁣
But then I thought... my page is honest and is here to reassure mamas (and dads) struggling, and if I can’t be open about the struggles I sometimes have - then that’s pretty fake. So here it is. ⁣
⁣
Putting it frankly, since we’ve been back from Aus Freddie’s sleep has gone pretty t*ts up! ⁣
⁣
As you may know from some of my earlier posts, Freddie is... shall we say... a VERY sensitive sleeper. So going on a 3 week trip to Aus was always going to cause challenges in the sleep department.⁣
⁣
Not only did we travel for 24 hours there and back (so had crazy plane sleep to manage) we stayed in 4 different places (so new cots, new rooms, new people) he also had terrible heat rash which bothered him constantly the whole trip, and then since we have been back, we have had the expected jetlag to contend with, and a stomach bug thrown in for good measure. ⁣
⁣
And let me tell you, this has been what I can only describe as the perfect storm. ⁣
⁣
So I wanted to talk to you as a mum. Not just a sleep therapist. ⁣
⁣
It is SO disheartening when all your hard work seems to go out the window and somehow you have to summon the energy and patience to start from the beginning again. This is where I am at right now. ⁣
⁣
So for any mamas in this position with me, when your little ones sleep is so screwed up, the best thing to do is to go back to basics. ⁣
⁣
It’s also so important to remember (and I’m telling myself this as much as I’m telling you!) that they aren’t learning from scratch. They will remember the positive sleep associations and routine and soon enough with the right techniques and consistency you’ll be back in good sleep habits in no time!⁣
⁣
Things in life are always going to come up that create sleep challenges, and that’s ok. I’ve been here before with Freddie, and I’ve helped loads of clients in similar situations (often colds etc.) which come up during a consultation. ⁣
⁣
We all struggle and have to go back to basics sometimes - but it will get better! ⁣
