Y’all. This weekend I went to an all-plus-size-girls’ retreat in a village in the English countryside. It was incredible. We didn’t even necessarily do anything groundbreaking, but the simple act of spending a weekend with women who shared some of the same experiences as me was amazing.

It’s hard to put into words, but there are lots of things I don’t talk about with my straight size friends. This weekend, with women I’d never met, I was open in a way I’ve never felt able to be before. Aside from it obviously being a judgment free zone, there’s something really liberating about being with people who look like you. Our physical bodies have an impact on every facet of our lives, so having that in common meant an instant connection and understanding between us.

We talked about our cultures, food, dieting, relationships, sex, harassment, and everything in between. I’ve never felt more comfortable being so vulnerable in my life. Thank you ladies for giving me that space and Kirsty for creating that space for us.
