🇰🇷 Korean traditional clothing is called Hanbok.

Depending on the event, gender, and socioeconomic status of the individual, the styles change. Those of high economic status or those who were royalty wore bright colors made of fine silk material.

The shape of the Hanbok is meant to be flowy and simple. The clothing is sewn together with square shapes, producing a boxy design that allows for free-flowing fit.

For men, the pants are baggy and tied around the ankles. It is believed that by putting pressure on the ankles’ acupuncture pressure points, it can benefit the health of the individual’s liver, kidneys, and spleen.

What I’m wearing is more modern. There are also more pieces that are worn in the hair (or hats for men) depending on the context it is being worn. Traditionally, the design is simpler and there is a ribbon attached to the top that is tied in a specific manner in the front.

I hadn’t worn my people’s gown in a long time. It was hot af but I felt beautiful. It was also cool to realize I’m wearing something my people have worn for over 1500 years 🥰

Does your culture have traditional gowns or regalia? What are they like? When do you wear them?
