⁣I remember being a little girl riding in the car with my mom as she carried on passionately about the goodness of God.⠀
⠀
“He is so good. And he really doesn’t ask that much of us in return!” I chimed in.⠀
⠀
“Oh no, baby.” She responded. “That’s where you are wrong. He asks EVERYTHING of us!”⠀
⠀
God is talked about a lot these days. We talk about Him as an ambiguous, feel good anecdote of positivity- the “if God will bring you to it, He’ll bring you through it” casual figure of speech type of God. Not tangible, but vague. Not changing us, but changing with us. ⠀
⠀
Surely we don’t talk about a Living God who came to Earth, made himself as low as dust and sweat blood over the price of our iniquity. Because IF we talked about this God, maybe we wouldn’t reduce Him to a happy thought at the end of the day. ⠀
⠀
If we continue to go TO the cross without Ever getting ON the cross, then what kind of salvation do we have anyways?⠀
What are we saved from? Are we saved from our addictions? Or sex life? Or self- pity? Or prejudice? Or gossip? ⠀
⠀
What have we left beside the road so we can bear our own splintered chunk of wood? Because if our conversation of God does not begin and end with a bloody Jesus, then we just might not be talking about God at all.
