Trastevere is a neighbourhood rich in history: it was captured by the Romans to gain access and control on both sides of the river. Since it was solely a strategic move, Romans were not interested in building on the other bank of the river, becoming the only inhabited part of Ancient Rome. It started to host traders and sailormen from all over Italy and the Mediterranean. Later on, Immigrants coming from the East began to settle on that side of the river and developed a culture all their own which allowed it to become unique and eclectic. Nowadays, it’s one of the most authentic and colourful Roman neighborhoods that have kept their charm and atmosphere. The place is known for its magical local atmosphere when the sun goes down.
