The Lady Vanishes (1938)
-Mystery Month Film 13-
Often more of a comedic how-dunnit than a straight up dark mystery film, to its benefit. The first third of the movie is slow but enjoyable, with great jokes and fun characters. This set up works dividends, because now that we’ve gotten a sense of everyone, figuring out who is a part of the conspiracy and who isn’t is even harder.
It’s definitely the most fun Hitchcock film I’ve seen. There’s great model shots, all the train-based action you could want, fun leads, and characters that are basically two fairly iconic droids from a certain space opera except obsessed with cricket. It’s just a general good time of a mystery movie.
Also I’m just a big fan of any film where Nazis get killed.
