A few posts back – I shown how to connect two Routing Tables (RT) together via an old fashion way😊 By simply running a cable between ports that are assigned to different RT’s.⠀
-⠀
This is an alternative way that utilizes Logical Tunnels (lt’s) to get the link internally between those two entities. This solution involves a point-to-point (but it still can act as a broadcast network) link with internal addressing that will be picked up by any IGP.⠀
-⠀
But there is a catch, the Router won’t have resources to spare to handle the processing of data on this link. We have to tell which Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) will take care of those calculations. And in the example – we went for the “FPC0 PIC 0” PFE to carry the workload of the processing (therefore the interface number lt-0/0/10).⠀
-⠀
One more post will follow – on how to achieve the same (and save a /30) by route leaking between tables.⠀
