"I don’t get how guys just don’t understand that sexism doesn’t have to be conscious to be bad. The wage gap isn’t because there’s a bunch of bosses sitting in their office cackling about paying those filthy women less, it’s cause there’s an entire society that’s been trained from birth to believe that work that women do is obviously easier and thus worth less. You can track how quickly wages stagnate or increase by adding women or men to the field. However feminine a job is perceived is how well it’s paid, with women in male-dominated fields being pushed down and men in women-dominated fields being fast-tracked to higher positions. You have women asking for raises less because we’ve been taught to never, ever make a man angry and men have been taught that any woman who does that is “demanding” and a nagging shrew. Women take more breaks because of pregnancy and because we can’t just leave our house alone for the live-in maid/nanny to take care of it and our children. And you accept all of this as something that’s somehow the personal choice of all women everywhere, rather than something wrong with our society, because of sexism teaching you that that’s what women are really like.
There is no evil group of men laughing about those lesser women. There’s an army of men hemming and hawwing and subconsciously holding women to unrealistic standards because that’s how they were trained, passing those teachings onto their children." via #aspiringwarriorlibrarian
