Adult acne is a b****! (Second pic for reference 😯 of the misery from a year ago) I must have almost posted these photos more than a hundred times now but always choose not to. Why? Because opening up about a vulnerability is tough and in the world of social media once it’s out there you can’t take it back. But, I for one, think it’s time we stop letting our vulnerabilities dictate our confidence. So I’m sharing mine.
.
I’ve struggled with adult cystic acne since I was 19. I managed to escape high school with only a spot or two but hormones can play games at any stage in life. The past decade and a half have been filled with plenty of trials and errors; good and absolutely horrible and painful moments. Seriously, cystic acne is one of the most prolonged painful things. But the past few months with the help of @belumibeauty and @bellasantespas along with both natural and non natural products my skin is finally on the mend and staying that way.
.
I’ve gotten really good, over the years, at learning camera angles, lighting, and makeup all in an effort to hide my shame - my acne. But I don’t want to do that anymore. It’s tiresome and makes it seem that every woman and man on IG is naturally flawless. Hint: we’re not. So it’s about time for some truth. .
I’m sharing what worked for me (day/night time routines in the comment section) but what works for me may never work for you. If you’ve struggled with prolonged acne you know this truth. Ideally I would love to be using all natural products but right now that’s not my reality. Right now it’s more important to me to find the right combination for my skin so that mentally I can feel confident. Sharing and hearing stories from people who suffer through similar experiences helps in this process.
.
So I want to know. What makes you vulnerable? What are you afraid to show on social? #vulnerabilitymatters
