A new jetliner will operate on the Bengaluru route from Friday with the launch of Singapore Airlines Airbus A350-900 between Bengaluru and Singapore.
Singapore Airlines that was operating the Boeing 777-200 till Thursday will replace it with the A350-900.
The airline will operate 10 flights a week on the route with the A350-900. The launch of the A350-900 is among the first to be launched on the Bengaluru route this year as many other airlines too will be deploying the jetliner later this year.
British Airways has said that Bengaluru will be the first city in India, and only the fourth destination on the airline’s worldwide network to operate the new A350 aircraft. The other routes on which the A350 aircraft will be launched by British Airways this year is Osaka, Pittsburgh and Charleston.
The deployment of the A350-900 on the Bengaluru route makes it the second state-of-the-art big jetliner after the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to operate from KIA.
While the Dreamliner can accommodate about 250 passengers with a range of 13,620 km, the A350-900 can accommodate around 325 passengers with a range of 15,000 km.
The A350 has a longer, wider fuselage thus providing better legroom. It also has a state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system; and auto-mechanical shades just like the Dreamliner. Airbus says the cabin air has more moisture to beat fatigue.
