A lot of people ask how long it takes to learn to play the piano or how good I’m already and what I can play. «Victoria, you are probably very good by now , it’s been 5 month since you started» - Sorry for disappointing you but you’re fundamentally flawed - it takes years of practice and there is a vast amount work and obstacles to get through if you wanna be a good and literate pianist☝🏻 You practice and practice and lament and practice some more. 😤You spend hours every day for months battling with something and finally it comes together and ....it’s an amazing feeling 🧚🏼♀️🥰
Personally I don’t wanna be a 🐒 who learns a few contemporary pieces by “watching and imitating” just to impress friends. So reading sheet music 🎶 is mandatory for me! Also it’s very important to build your accuracy 🕰( I struggle with the rhythm atm🙄). And the most important is to be able to convey emotion. I’m so blessed to have met my amazing piano teacher who has showed me that music is a kind of language of emotion so it’s not about speed any longer !
If you want to play Mozart, Schubert, Haydn or whoever, then being able to read the music will really help - but only to a certain extent. A pianist that plays the music exactly as it is written down will sound stilted and uninspiring ☝🏻: the player has to be able to bring the nuances of the work out in the manner in which they play. Quiet parts; louder parts; slightly out of time; 🥰 chords that are rippled rather than placed in a single full chord - a lot of these things are not found on a music sheet.
How does it feel to play a difficult masterpiece ? - Putatively it is an exhilarating experience. It’s yet to come...I’m very much looking forward 🤪
