🐳🐬Today we joined over 500 coasties on Umina beach to stand up, together, to fight for our coast & end seismic testing before it begins!👏🏻🐬When seismic testing is approved and conducted NEXT YEAR, these harmful blasts will occur every 10-15 seconds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for months on end. While light doesn’t travel particularly well in the ocean, sound does. In fact, it travels at a hyper-efficiency, meaning the level of noise created by airgun blasts are felt to the fullest extent. At 259 decibels (dB) per blast, the sound is enough to kill a human.😡
The testing can cause hearing loss, abandonment of habitat, disruption of mating and feeding, beach strandings and even death for whales, sea lions, dolphins, turtles and other ocean wildlife. In addition,the planned gas field will contribute to greater climate change👎🏼 We should be investing in renewable energy, not exploiting our precious coast and risking harm to our marine animals and the entire ecosystem for foreign investor contracts. 🤬There is an online petition which I’ve put the link in my bio.
