Five years ago I did a really dope thing and I never talk about it. I slick act like I was never in the military and aside from my casual mentions of life as a disabled vet after years of suffering from severe PTSD- you would never know I raised my hand to Uncle Sam. Well I did, but that’s not the dope part haha. Or what this student documentary that I was asked to be featured in is about. While in, I made history. Legitimately. I led a charge that changed the regulations for women with natural hair. I’m why y’all are getting dreaded up in the service ret now. And yet I never talk about it. Maybe it’s bc it’s entangled with memories of trauma and guilt, and I just mind dump the entire thing. But it took this student legit tracking me down to make this project and tell my story that I conceded that I have a story. And it’s lit. 💫
