UNHCR upgraded the water supply infrastructure in nine communities in North Lebanon and Bekaa. The areas benefitting from this project host large numbers of refugees.
Even before the Syrian crisis, the state of Lebanon’s water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services were severely inadequate as a result of civil war and post-conflict under-investment.
The increase in population brought about by the large influx of Syrian refugees added extreme pressure on infrastructure and overstretched water and sanitation systems across Lebanon.
