Almost 44 years after it’s fall as the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City) is the financial hub of Vietnam and the most populated city in the country (13 million in the metro area). Once known as the capital of French Indochina, the city has kept its beautiful French architecture merged with a Vietnamese twist. This bustling city wakes up to fantastic signature Vietnamese coffee where locals spend quality time together in the coffee shops before going on with their daily activities.
One can find anything in the city’s busy street markets; from any sort of raw meat being sold next to stalls that sell different items of clothing and a large section is dedicated to spare parts for motorcycles as there is more than 8 MILLION registered motorcycles that buzz through the congested streets of this mega city!
Day’s end is when everyone (local or tourist) sits on the iconic short plastic stools and people-watch in the busy streets while feasting on some delicious Vietname cuisine.
.
To me, a must-do activity while in Saigon was the visit of the War Remnant Museum as it was an unbelievably sad and horrific experience to see the documentation and the photography of terrors of the Vietnam War. The cruelty that the Vietname people have been put through is beyond words and it is truly admiring that after having been through the recent war (and many more wars throughout their history), their country and economy are thriving so ever rapidly. 🇻🇳❤️🕊
