Today Soleil is 15 months old. When I wasn’t a parent I never understood sharing ages in months post 1 year, tbh I thought it was so extra and now as mom I am just so grateful for making through every single month. It isn’t just about her, it’s also about us. 15 months of parenting, of many sleep deprived nights, of trying to figure out a life that is brand new and all the wildness that comes with it. Yesterday I broke a nail all the way off holding the car seat, spilled hot glue on my legs, dropped Soleil’s bottle in a sewer on my way to teach a yoga class where she climbed all over me the entire time as I gracefully tried to lead my students. 🙃Nothing is easy anymore, going out, even going to the bathroom comes with planning and 30 minutes - 1 hour more time than I thought I needed.
I often feel like such a mess. As a a Black woman entrepreneur, I usually have at least 8 projects on the go, plus the creative work and it takes a lot to get it all done. So when we make it to the end of the day after it all, when she cuddles right into me and sleeps the entire night, I know that I got this.
Today, my home is clean, Soleil is so happy she can’t stop giggling, and I’m finally catching up on some of the work that needs to get done.
This was the smile that came out while I was shooting as soon as my baby came on set. No matter how hard or how messy things get, she is the center of all that is joyful, le soleil dans mon univers✨
