Near the end of a wedding ceremony is the fire ritual. Sometimes called Homa or Havan. Several things are done to teach and symbolize the bond of marriage and the important values of marriage.
It finishes with the bride and groom walking together around the fire 7 times with part of their clothing tied together. This is the equivalent of exchanging rings at a Western wedding.
I love the beauty and powerful symbolism at an Indian wedding. So much is emphasized of not only the bond of the newly wed couple, but also of two families joining together as one.
