After grinding out the last 4-6 weeks just to try and get back to a consistent small base of mileage, I had the mental strength to take my 6+ mile run out the trails and run some hills early this morning.

I’m very thankful that my body showed up with the same strength that my mind had displayed in making the choice a few hours earlier.

Going out is mostly uphill, taking it cautiously and wisely in 30+ minutes, only to turn around have have enough in the tank to come back in under 25 minutes, for an average of 8:25 pace over 6.5 miles.

Pace was not the goal today. Instead, simply taking on the trails and the hills to build strength, power, stamina, and mental toughness was the true objective. The pace, slow, but solid, was just a bonus.

Thankful for so many, many things, but today, especially for the peace and inspiration found in the Creator’s beautifully painted landscapes...
